This study analyses the status of the lighting market and, in this context, how the „magical triangle „between manufacturers, wholesalers and electricians is working. It investigates how installers select lighting products, the influence wholesalers have on these decisions and the conditions that could facilitate a willingness to change brand.

The findings shall point out the opportunities and possibilities to the manufacturer as well as the wholesaler, to optimise the deployed resources. The study explains the most important findings and conclusions from the comprehensive data collection. Further studies could deliver in-depth insights, such as brand peculiarities or detailed conduct in the choice of wholesaler. The study clearly shows that the wholesaler has an important influence on product selection of electricians. The wholesaler has a high level of trust and is regarded as a „Opinion Leader“. That‘s why the manufacturers‘ marketing subsidies play a key role when it comes to the success of the brand. The results show that the majority of respondents install lighting products, especially in the B2B-area, and the wholesaler has a great influence on the choice of the brand. For brand selection in contrast, are particularly important the quality and price for installers has been observed. The manufacturer catalogues and brochures, as well as the wholesaler, serve as the most trusted sources of information. The study also includes informative „Actionable Insights“. For this purpose, some of the analysis has been focused on selected manufacturers. These are used to select the right target groups and to identify the most suitable target groups.
