In 2000, several major players in the electrical industry, ABB, Legrand, Nexans, Osram, Philips, Prysmian (formerly Pirelli Cables & Systems) and Schneider Electric, decided to create a European portal for the industry and to set up the technological and organisational infrastructure of Voltimum. In 2002, Hager joined the initiative as a shareholder.

The initial investment exceeded 20 Million Euro and today Voltimum continues to enjoy the on-going support of its founders.
